Grade: Kindergarten
Lesson: Alphabet Flashcards
Objective: Using Quizlet, students will make flashcards online to practice at home with their parents. The parents will then be involved in the students' learning at home. Once the students make their online flashcards, a handout will be sent home to the parents describing what to do and how to do it.
Anticipatory Set: I will introduce the online flashcards to the class during the day. As a class, we will go trough every flashcard that I created for the material we are currently learning.
- Students must have knowledge of the material that we are learning to make their own set of flashcards.
- Students will be helped in the computer lab while they are making their own special flashcards.
Lesson focus: Students will be taught, step by step, how to make their own flashcards. There will be parent volunteers to help the children type any long sentences, along with making sure they are typing in the correct information. Students will make their first flashcard set based on the alphabet. They must make 5 flashcards, each with a different letter of the alphabet. As a class, we will go over examples for every letter in the alphabet. For example, Zoo starts with Z, Book starts with B. The front of the flashcard will say, " ______ starts with the letter __." On the back of the flashcard, the students will type in the letter of the word that they chose.
Homework with the parents: Part of the assignment is for the students to practice their flashcards at home with their parents. This is to encourage parent involvment with all of the students. The students will read the flashcards out loud, along with their parents if they are struggling. Parents will make sure that the students are saying the letter out loud, along with the sound that the letter makes.
Assessment: At the end of the week, students will bring back a sheet with the days of the week on it. The students will place a sticker in the box of each day that they practiced their flashcards with their parents. Parents must also write about how their child did and the progression that they made throughout the week. When students bring back their forms, they will get to choose a tressure from the tressure chest on Friday.
Closure: This activity will be a fun way for the students to practice their words, letters, and sounds. I will have a copy of each students' flashcards made online; and as a class, we will go over one set a day. I will have them practice daily at home with their parents to make sure they are practicing outside of school, and that their parents are active in their learning.

Tips and Tricks
One trick I know is to switch back and forth between windows on your screen you can press Alt and Tab. I didn't learn this until a few classes ago, and I don't know any other tricks because I am not good with computers.

Reflection
When I teach I am going to be very postive with my students and encourage them no matter what. In all of my years of school I had so many negative teachers. I think it is very important for teachers to set an example for their students and encourage them to do what they dream to do. I do not think it is appropriate to throw classwork away if a student is off task because they will not learn anything if they are staring at a blank desk. I believe that students who misbehave should still have to do the same work that the rest of the class does. I have seen teachers do this all the time so they do not have to deal with students misbeaving or being off task. A lot of my teachers when I was younger had no patience at all and I think that is the most important characteristic to have if you are a teacher! If you do not have any patience for you students then you are going to hate teaching. I also will carry many things that I have learned from previous teachers. I want my classroom to be postive and a safe enviorment for all of my students where they can learn and have fun too!
